Co-owner Gene Haas and Tony Stewart said they had to make a hard choice to close SHR at the end of the 2024 season.

The decision affected around 300 employees, including the six drivers: Chase Briscoe, Josh Berry, Noah Gragson, Ryan Preece, Cole Custer, and Riley Herbst.

An SHR spokesman mentioned that the Xfinity program might continue in some form in 2025, but not as part of SHR.

The future for SHR’s Cup drivers is uncertain because teams haven’t agreed on a new charter with NASCAR yet. Currently, SHR holds four charters.

Chase Briscoe, who won his first Cup race with SHR in 2022, shared a video after learning about the team’s decision. He said he feels like SHR is his family and doesn’t know what he’ll do next in NASCAR.

SHR started 2024 with four young drivers and only one Cup win. Although they’ve improved slightly compared to last year, they haven’t reached their previous level of success.

Briscoe is currently the highest-ranked driver at 16th place, with one top-five and five top-10 finishes in 14 races.

Josh Berry, a rookie in the Cup Series, also commented, saying it was a tough day but they’ll keep racing their hearts out.

Riley Herbst thanked SHR for hiring him when he was struggling, and Cole Custer said it’s heartbreaking to see SHR close but they’ll keep fighting for the rest of the year.

Veteran crew chief Rodney Childers, who won the 2014 title with Kevin Harvick, shared a message on social media.
