RFK Racing already has two full-time drivers, Brad Keselowski and Chris Buescher. Now, Joey Hand will join them to drive their No. 60 Ford in the NASCAR Cup Series. This car, known as the ‘Stage 60’ entry, races part-time.
Previously, David Ragan drove the car in the Daytona 500, and Cam Waters, a 12-time winner in Supercars, raced it last weekend at Sonoma Raceway.
BuildSubmarines.com, a sponsor that partnered with ‘Stage 60’ at Daytona and Sonoma, will sponsor Hand’s race at Chicago as well.
Hand, who currently drives for Ford in various sports car races, has an impressive racing career. He was a champion in the Star Mazda Series and has won prestigious events like the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2011, the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2012, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity with the ‘Stage 60’ program,” said Hand, who is 45 years old. “I’ve worked closely with the RFK team on their simulator for the past three years and have a lot of respect for what they do. Chicago is a street race, which I love and have experience in. NASCAR is incredibly competitive, and I’m looking forward to putting on a good show for the fans.”
Hand’s NASCAR journey began in 2021 with Rick Ware Racing, where he drove the No. 52 car at the Charlotte Roval. In 2022, he raced for RWR in six events on road courses such as Circuit of the Americas, Sonoma, and Watkins Glen. His best finish was 20th place at Sonoma.
Last July, Shane van Gisbergen, a three-time Supercars champion, made history by winning a Cup race in his debut at Chicago, marking the first time in over 60 years that a driver had achieved such a feat. He drove for Trackhouse Racing during that memorable race.
