AlphaTauri leak suggests rebranded F1 team name – Motorsport Week

A leak on AlphaTauri’s social media channels has hinted at the team’s upcoming transition to ‘Visa Cash App Racing Bulls’ as part of its rebranding for the 2024 Formula 1 season.

Speculation about a potential sale of the team emerged last year, prompting the Faenza-based squad to announce a name change and a closer collaboration with Red Bull.

To revitalize the team’s performance, AlphaTauri has been incorporating more car components from its sister side and is set to expand its presence in the United Kingdom by relocating its aero department to a facility within Milton Keynes, where Red Bull’s operations are based.

Initially known as Toro Rosso since its acquisition by Red Bull in 2005, the team adopted the name AlphaTauri in 2020 to promote the Austrian company’s clothing brand.

Last year, AlphaTauri CEO Peter Bayer indicated a return to a “generic” identity aligned with Red Bull’s sponsors. However, as the 2024 car launch approaches next month, the revised team name remains undisclosed.

The FIA’s entry list for the 2024 campaign, published in December, listed the team’s chassis as ‘RB,’ with the official team name registered as Scuderia AlphaTauri RB.

It is speculated that ‘RB’ refers to ‘Racing Bulls,’ supported by the registration of RacingBulls.com and a logo in November.

Recent developments suggest that the team’s Instagram handle briefly changed to ‘Visa Cash App RB’ before reverting to its original AlphaTauri username.

This follows the purchase of the VisaCashAppRB.com domain this month, hinting at sponsorship deals with Visa and Cash App for the ‘Racing Bulls’ F1 team.

The impending announcement reflects Red Bull’s ongoing partnerships with American brands, such as the RB19 launch in New York and the collaboration with Ford on engines from 2026.

Visa, a multinational credit card company, is set to make its foray into F1 on a larger scale, while Cash App, a mobile payment service, has been a sponsor for Red Bull since 2021.

Red Bull’s second-string squad will feature Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda as its drivers. Additionally, former Ferrari Racing Director Laurent Mekies has assumed the role of Team Principal, succeeding Franz Tost, who retired after 18 years at the helm at the end of the previous year.
