Here are 10 key details about the proposed Lagos Fourth Mainland Bridge, as outlined by Autojosh:

1) The Fourth Mainland Bridge (4MB) is planned as a 2 x 4 lane carriageway cross-sectional road, featuring permission for a BRT Lane and provisions for future road expansion. The Lagos State Government anticipates the project’s completion within four years, potentially concluding in 2027.

2) On December 29, 2022, the Lagos State Government selected Messrs. CCECC—CRCCIG Consortium as the preferred bidder for the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge (4MB) project.

3) Initially estimated at $2.5 billion, the project was projected to cost the state approximately ₦844 billion in the 2017 budget. An additional $2.2 billion was proposed by the Lagos State Government for the construction in September 2020.

4) The Lagos State Government asserts that the 4MB project will generate around 5000 jobs for young engineers, and properties along the project corridor are expected to experience significant appreciation.

5) Upon completion, 4MB is poised to become the second-longest bridge in Africa, featuring three toll plazas, nine interchanges, a 4.5-kilometre Lagoon Bridge, and an eco-friendly environment.

6) The bridge is a priority solution to alleviate congestion on existing structures such as Carter Bridge, Eko Bridge, and the 11.8-km 3rd Mainland bridges while simultaneously unlocking new areas for future city development.

7) The 4MB Project is proposed as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) transport infrastructure development, encompassing the construction and operation of a tolled road and bridge with a design speed of 120km/h. It will also include the development of adjacent real estate.

8) Spanning approximately 37 kilometers, the project will initiate from Abraham Adesanya in Ajah, on the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe corridor, and traverse the North West towards the Lagoon shoreline of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway via Owutu/Isawo in Ikorodu.

9) Several construction companies, including Julius Berger Nigeria, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), CRCCCI Nigeria, China State Construction and Engineering Corporation Nigeria Ltd, and Bua International Ltd, expressed interest in the project.

10) While CCECC-CRCCIG emerged as the preferred bidder for the Fourth Mainland Bridge Project, the Lagos State Government indicated that Messrs. MOTA-ENGIL (NIGERIA & AFRICA), CCCC & CRBC CONSORTIUM are the reserved bidders.
