The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) recently made significant strides in their ongoing campaign to mitigate road traffic accidents by apprehending overloaded trucks carrying goods and passengers, a practice known to heighten the risk of accidents.
This initiative comes on the heels of a directive issued by the FRSC boss in December, mandating the arrest of trailers and trucks found transporting both humans and animals simultaneously. This decision was prompted by a series of tragic accidents involving articulated vehicles carrying this dual cargo.
Over the weekend, FRSC officers conducted a Special Intervention Patrol focused on curbing the overloading of trucks with goods and animals along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
During one such operation, Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu personally intervened, stepping out of his official vehicle to oversee the arrest of a truck laden with goods and passengers close to Katari, around 4 pm on the 11th of February, 2024.
In a statement released by the FRSC, they emphasized the inherent dangers posed by overloading vehicles with goods and passengers, underscoring the urgency of their efforts to prevent road traffic crashes nationwide.
This proactive approach to enforcement underscores the commitment of the FRSC to ensuring road safety and reducing the incidence of accidents. By targeting specific behaviors such as overloading, they aim to create safer roadways for all motorists and passengers.
