BMW is gearing up for the next-generation M5, which will include a wagon variant previously only rumored for release in North America. BMW’s design chief, Domagoj Dukec, has officially confirmed that the new M5 Touring wagon will indeed be offered in the United States, alongside the sedan model, with an anticipated arrival in 2025.

While BMW North America declined to provide further details regarding the availability of the M5 Touring, stating that more information will be shared at a later date, Dukec’s remarks solidify the prospect of its introduction.

The upcoming M5 Touring has been teased by BMW, its long-roof design hidden under festive wrapping paper.

It is expected to feature a potent hybrid powertrain, combining a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with electric assistance to deliver a performance exceeding 700 horsepower, positioning it between the standard XM and the XM Label models.

The recent unveiling of the new 5 Series Touring has provided insight into the refreshed design language for this body style. Anticipated differentiators for the M5 variant include an assertive front fascia and quad tailpipes, accentuating its sporty character.

The inspiration for the M5 Touring can be traced back to the success of the M3 Touring. BMW board member Frank Weber revealed in an interview with Quattroruote that the strong sales of the M3 Touring prompted the development of a wagon version for the larger M5. Audi’s achievements with the RS6 Avant in North America likely influenced BMW’s decision.

With the recent debut of the standard 5 Series sedan and wagon, it’s expected that BMW will unveil the M5 variants before the end of 2024, ahead of their anticipated launch in the American market the following year.

Prospective buyers should prepare for a premium price tag, likely surpassing six figures, for these high-performance M5 offerings.
