In recent years, there has been a significant rise in the average price of new cars. However, there are still options available to become the original owner for under $20,000. Alternatively, for a similar price as a Nissan Versa, you can acquire a 1/8-scale model of the Lamborghini Countach.
Amalgam, a British scale-model manufacturer, collaborated with Lamborghini to introduce an officially licensed replica of the Countach LP400. While not the first nor the sole die-cast Countach model, it stands out as one of the largest and most intricately detailed ones.
Offered in Giallo Fly or Rosso, this wedge-shaped coupe measures over 20 inches in length and impresses with its meticulous attention to detail. The model replicates features such as opening panels, pop-up headlights, and even the gated shifter for the five-speed manual transmission.
At the rear, a replica of the longitudinally-mounted 4.0-liter V12 engine can be found. Though it doesn’t produce the 370 horsepower of the real car, it includes details such as fuel lines, carburetors, and sparkplug wires.
Amalgam goes as far as adding minute clamps to the cooling system hoses and fitting a period-correct Fiamm battery with tiny terminals at the front of the car. Limited to 199 units, each 1/8-scale Countach LP400 model is meticulously handcrafted, requiring over 400 hours and thousands of parts.
The starting price for this masterpiece is £14,835, equivalent to approximately $18,700. For perspective, Nissan offers a 2024 Versa for $17,530 (including a $1,150 destination charge) equipped with a five-speed manual transmission.
For enthusiasts interested in Lamborghini’s current lineup, Amalgam also plans to release an equally detailed 1/8-scale replica of the Revuelto. Available in two configurations, the standard model starts at £12,185 (approximately $15,300), while the tailor-made option begins at £17,425 (around $21,900).
The latter allows enthusiasts to commission a replica of their full-sized Revuelto, including details such as seat stitching color, thanks to Amalgam’s collaboration with Lamborghini and access to the brand’s paint colors.
