The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that the Federal Government has garnered approximately ₦556,738,736 Naira (₦556.7 million) in revenue through its ongoing e-auctioning of overtime/impounded vehicles.
In a statement released by the Customs Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, it was revealed that a total of 13,605 applicants registered on the agency’s e-auction portal across five successful bidding windows. During these windows, 476 vehicles were made available for auction, with 462 vehicles successfully bid upon.
Addressing rumors circulating regarding the allocation of 300 vehicles to a single individual through the e-auction process following alleged underhand payments, the NCS clarified that such claims are unfounded.
Each vehicle listed for auction carries a reserved price of N400,000, and allegations of payments as low as N10,000 being made for vehicle allotments were dismissed as misleading.
The NCS emphasized its commitment to upholding integrity and transparency in all its operations, stating that any accusations of impropriety are taken seriously. The agency operates within legal frameworks and strictly adheres to established guidelines and procedures for the disposal of seized and overtime goods.
Responding to a report titled “The Monumental Stealing By The Customs Auction Committee And Their Plans To Dispose-Off Overtime Containers,” the NCS expressed disappointment over the allegations questioning the integrity of the e-auction process.
It reiterated its dedication to maintaining accountability and transparency, refuting any claims of fraudulent activities or irregular dealings in the e-auctioning of vehicles or other goods.
