A female Mercedes-Benz driver, Omorogbe Jennifer Soni, has been remanded to Kirikiri prison after being accused of a serious assault on a police officer.
The incident occurred when Omorogbe was caught on camera pushing a uniformed female officer forcefully to the ground, causing her to fall into the mud while she was engaged in traffic control duties in the Ajah area of Lagos State on February 21, 2024.
According to a statement released by the Lagos State Police Command through its Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, Omorogbe Jennifer was promptly arraigned the next day, February 22, 2024, at the Etiosa Magistrate Court in Ajah.
She has been remanded in the Kirikiri Female Correctional Centre pending the next hearing scheduled for March 27, 2024.
The Lagos State Police Command emphasized the need for all Lagosians to uphold the law in their daily activities and interactions. They warned that anyone found guilty of violating the law would face the full consequences as dictated by the legal system.
Among the charges brought against Omorogbe Jennifer Soni are obstructing the highway for other road users and unlawfully assaulting a woman Superintendent of Police, Comfort Areghan, while she was on duty controlling traffic.
These charges carry penalties as stipulated under the transport sector reform law of Lagos State 2018 and the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015, respectively.
