Abel Motorsports is expanding its roster for the upcoming racing season with the addition of 21-year-old British racer Josh Mason. This move bolsters Abel’s program to three entries alongside seasoned veteran Jacob Abel and another promising rookie, Yuven Sundaramoorthy.
Mason brings a wealth of experience from his ventures in the European junior formula circuits, boasting eight Formula 2 starts last season and clinching four victories in 32 outings in the Euroformula Open Championship over the past two years.
Expressing his anticipation for the upcoming season, Mason, who has also spent three years competing in British F3, shared, “I’m really looking forward to racing in Indy NXT by Firestone with Abel Motorsports this season. It’s another chapter in my career, now racing in the States for the first time, so it’s going to be a new experience and challenge for me, but I can’t wait to get started and do it with Abel Motorsports.”
For Mason, racing in North America signifies a fresh chapter, with sights set on embracing the American racing culture and tackling iconic circuits like Laguna Seca’s famed corkscrew. He sets his goals high for 2024, aiming to collaborate closely with Abel Motorsports to maximize performance and achieve success on the track.
Bill Abel, the team owner, echoed the excitement surrounding Mason’s addition, emphasizing high expectations for the upcoming season. “We’re all very excited to have Josh Mason join us at Abel Motorsports for the 2024 Indy NXT by Firestone season. I expect Josh to be a contender in each of the races in the INDY NXT championship and of course, to be in the championship hunt.”
Mason will have his maiden opportunity to test the Indy NXT machinery during the season-opening weekend on the Streets of St. Petersburg from March 8-10.
