Providing further details, the Governor outlined the scope of the Green and Purple lines. The Green Line spans approximately 71.49 kilometers from Marina to the Lekki Free Zone, a burgeoning industrial hub and the future site of the Lagos International Airport.

Meanwhile, the Purple Line extends over 54.35 kilometers from the Redemption Camp to Ojo, near the Lagos State University.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that as the government progresses with design plans, comprehensive information regarding the Green and Purple lines will be made available to the public.

During the event, President Tinubu commended the Lagos State government for its proactive approach to addressing transportation challenges and urged other state governors to emulate Lagos’s example. He underscored the importance of prioritizing the welfare of citizens and maintaining focus on developmental objectives.

Acknowledging the professionalism of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and its dedication to project delivery, President Tinubu expressed his support for the completion of the next phases of the Blue and Red lines.

A significant moment of the ceremony was the signing of contracts for the second phase of the Red Line between the Managing Director of LAMATA and the Managing Director of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), Zhinchen Zhang.
