The recent apprehension of individuals associated with the “Shifting Seat One-Chance” syndicate in Abuja has prompted a stern advisory from the Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, urging Nigerians to exercise vigilance when considering taxi rides to avoid falling prey to such criminal elements.
ACP Adejobi’s cautionary advice comes in the wake of heightened concerns surrounding security nationwide.
He underscores the importance of discernment, particularly when encountering taxis with a distinct passenger composition: three or four passengers, predominantly men seated at the back, and a woman occupying the front seat.
Highlighting the modus operandi of the “Shifting Seat One-Chance” syndicate, Adejobi reveals that these perpetrators often recruit women, frequently their spouses, to participate in their illicit activities. The recent crackdown in Abuja led to the seizure of a vehicle purportedly acquired through the proceeds of their criminal endeavors.
He warns citizens to remain wary of suspicious cab arrangements, emphasizing the tactic employed by these syndicates. Typically, they approach unsuspecting passengers and coax them into sitting in the front seat.
Once settled, they insist on adjusting the seat and offer assistance with handling belongings, such as bags, ostensibly to facilitate the adjustment process. However, this serves as a distraction, enabling them to pilfer the victim’s phone(s) unnoticed.
In essence, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi’s advisory serves as a crucial reminder for individuals to exercise caution and remain vigilant, particularly in the context of taxi rides, to safeguard against falling victim to one-chance syndicates.
