Lewis Hamilton received a warning from the FIA, and Mercedes was fined following an incident involving Logan Sargeant during FP2 in Saudi Arabia.
In FP2, traffic congestion on the track led to several drivers encountering close calls, including Williams’ Sargeant, who found himself on a flying lap when he encountered Hamilton at turn 11.
Forced to take evasive action off the track to avoid a collision with the slow-moving Mercedes, Sargeant expressed his frustration over the team radio, highlighting the potential danger of the situation.
Hamilton, unaware of Sargeant’s flying lap as he attempted to yield to Carlos Sainz, clarified his actions over the Mercedes radio, citing a lack of awareness of another car on a fast lap.
Following an investigation after the session, stewards issued a warning to Hamilton and fined Mercedes €15,000 for their role in the incident. The official FIA statement emphasized the severity of the situation, noting the risk of a high-speed crash had Sargeant not taken evasive action.
