Oliver Bearman experienced a whirlwind introduction to Formula 1 with Ferrari in Saudi Arabia, marking his debut in the sport.
Securing pole position in F2 just the day before, Bearman received the unexpected call-up to replace Carlos Sainz, who was sidelined due to appendicitis.
At 18 years old, Bearman became the youngest driver to race for Ferrari and the third youngest in Formula 1 history, starting Saturday’s race from 11th place after narrowly missing out on Q3.
Reflecting on his F1 debut with Sky Sports F1, Bearman acknowledged the abrupt transition from preparing for his F2 race to being thrust into F1 FP3 and qualifying. Despite the unconventional circumstances, he viewed the experience as a fantastic opportunity, albeit with a hint of disappointment at missing out on certain aspects.
Highlighting the significant difference between F2 and F1 machinery, Bearman noted the evolving track conditions and the unparalleled grip of an F1 car, emphasizing the adjustment required to push the limits of both the car and the driver.
