The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) has named the Kia EV9 as the World’s Best Car for 2024, coinciding with International Women’s Day on March 8, 2024. Succeeding last year’s champion, the Kia Niro, the EV9 emerged triumphant in a highly competitive field.
Marta Garcia, executive president of WWCOTY, remarked on the challenge of selecting a winner, stating, “This year’s election was particularly difficult due to the excellent level of all the candidates.” She highlighted the EV9’s universal appeal, citing its ability to meet the diverse needs of consumers worldwide.
Standing out among five finalists, each recognized for excellence in their respective categories, and the EV9 was praised for its cutting-edge design, advanced technology integration, and innovative features such as bidirectional charging and ultra-fast charging capabilities.
Initially honored as the Best SUV, it ultimately clinched the prestigious title of World’s Best Car of 2024. The other category winners included the Volvo EX30 (Best Family Car), BMW 5 Series (Best Large Car), Volkswagen Amarok (Best 4×4 & Pick-up), and Aston Martin DB12 (Best Exclusive Car).
The selection process began with 63 vehicles launched across at least two continents between January 1 and December 31, 2023. Evaluated by 75 women motoring journalists from 52 countries spanning five continents, the contenders underwent comprehensive scrutiny.
Adding to its accolades, the Kia EV9 had previously been honored as the 2024 SUV of the Year by the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) in January. The vehicle stood alongside the Ford Super Duty, named Truck of the Year, and the Toyota Prius, crowned Car of the Year.
Furthermore, the EV9 has been recognized as one of the three finalists for the 2024 World Car of the Year by the World Car Awards. Competing against the Volvo EX30 and the BYD Seal, marking the Chinese automaker’s inaugural entry into contention, the winner will be revealed on March 27, 2024, at the New York International Auto Show.
