The reigning double world champion seized the lead in the standings by delivering a controlled performance at the season-opening Grand Prix in Losail. This victory marked Bagnaia’s second consecutive win in the season’s first Grand Prix, following a challenging sprint race where he finished fourth.
Despite dominating pre-season testing, Bagnaia faced challenges during the sprint due to a vibration issue with his Ducati caused by high tire pressures. Reflecting on his win, Bagnaia emphasized the importance of understanding the GP24 over a full race distance rather than solely focusing on the victory.
Bagnaia stated, “Winning, for sure, is fantastic and important, but I’m more happy that we understand better the way to have performance with this bike.” He highlighted the significance of learning to optimize performance on used tires, particularly as the championship progresses.
Acknowledging the long season ahead with 40 races remaining, Bagnaia stressed the importance of maintaining consistency and adapting to varying track conditions. Looking ahead to the next race in Portimao, he expressed determination to build upon the progress made with the GP24.
Bagnaia’s victory sets a positive tone for the championship, demonstrating his ability to overcome challenges and adapt to evolving circumstances as he aims for further success throughout the season.
