Jonathan Ward, the founder of ICON and TLC4X4, has reached a significant milestone in his career, celebrating the completion of his 500th Land Cruiser project. Over three decades of restoring vintage Land Cruisers, Ward has established a legacy of craftsmanship and innovation.
The commemorative project, a brand-new 1964 ICON New School Edition FJ44, signifies Ward’s dedication to restoring and reimagining the iconic Land Cruiser.
Reflecting on his journey, Ward recalls the origins of his fascination with Land Cruisers during a safari in Africa. Witnessing the remarkable capabilities of these vintage vehicles firsthand inspired him to embark on a career in Land Cruiser restoration.
His venture began with TLC4X4, gradually evolving into full ground-up resto-mods under the ICON banner, driven by Ward’s unparalleled expertise and passion for Land Cruisers.
Among Ward’s notable projects is the restoration of a rare original Land Cruiser pickup truck, challenging his skills with its unique specifications and scarcity of parts.
Another pivotal build was the 1965 FJ43, which showcased ICON’s innovative approach by integrating premium features and modern elements into the classic Land Cruiser design.
Ward’s reputation for groundbreaking Land Cruiser designs led to collaborations with Toyota, including the creation of an early prototype for the FJ Cruiser launch.
