A harrowing incident unfolded when a 31-year-old UK man, Nathan Owens, found himself trapped inside his 2019 Jaguar I-Pace, hurtling down the M62 motorway at 100 mph with malfunctioning brakes. Owens’ predicament was real, not a scene from a movie, yet its veracity remains questionable.
Last week, Owens contacted Merseyside Police to report a malfunction in his Jaguar I-Pace while he was inside the vehicle, which was speeding along the busy motorway with no signs of the brakes working.
Despite police instructions to pull over safely, Owens was unable to do so. He later recounted the ordeal, expressing fear for his safety and that of others as he maneuvered between vehicles.
Merseyside Police deployed multiple vehicles to intercept the runaway I-Pace, temporarily closing lanes and causing traffic delays. After a 35-minute pursuit, the vehicle’s battery depleted, bringing the incident to a safe conclusion without injuries.
Owens subsequently disclosed to the media that this was the second such incident in less than four months. Although the first occurrence was equally terrifying, happening in heavy traffic, the vehicle reached speeds of 120 mph uncontrollably.
Comparing his experience to action movie chase scenes, Owens expressed concern about potential harm and described the car’s behavior as “in its world.” Police and Jaguar Land Rover launched investigations into the incident, with Owens facing suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance.
While Owens’ account gained attention, implications arose regarding the accuracy of his claims. JLR confirmed cooperation with police but refrained from providing details, suggesting their investigation found no evidence supporting Owens’ allegations.
