During the Sao Paulo E-Prix event, an electronic vote was conducted among all 11 Formula E team principals to address an FIA regulation potentially preventing certain drivers from competing in Berlin.
The regulation, applying to the Berlin E-Prix double-header, considers the event as one sole competition, restricting driver changes between races unless unanimously agreed upon by all teams.
With several drivers running dual campaigns, including commitments in the WEC’s Six Hours of Spa, the vote aimed to bypass this regulation to allow flexibility for those participating in both series.
Despite the necessity for unanimity, at least one team reportedly rejected the proposal. Consequently, drivers racing at Spa will not be permitted to compete in the Berlin E-Prix the following day.
Affected drivers include Sebastien Buemi, Robin Frijns, Jean-Eric Vergne, Stoffel Vandoorne, Nyck de Vries, Edoardo Mortara, and Nico Muller, who may face scheduling conflicts between the two championships.
The decision underscores the complexities of managing overlapping race calendars and the need for consensus among stakeholders to address such challenges effectively.
