McLaren’s road car division is set to revolutionize its vehicle development process by integrating advanced racing simulation technology from the Formula One and IndyCar circuits into the refinement of its high-performance hypercars.
Partnering with UK-based Dynisma, McLaren Automotive, a part of the larger McLaren Group encompassing its Formula One and IndyCar endeavors, announced plans to introduce a cutting-edge Dynisma Motion Generator (DMG) simulator at its Technology Centre in Woking, UK.
Scheduled to debut in mid-2024, this state-of-the-art simulator will serve as a pivotal tool in enhancing the testing and development of McLaren’s upcoming road-going models, including the successor to its iconic P1 hypercar.
With a focus on optimizing vehicle dynamics, handling, braking, aerodynamics, powertrains, and overall driving experience, the simulator promises to expedite the development process while reducing costs associated with traditional prototype testing.
In particular, McLaren’s next-generation flagship, codenamed ‘P18’ and slated for a 2024 release, is poised to benefit from this innovative approach, with advancements in design, including a transition from butterfly to top-hinged gullwing doors.
Moreover, the simulator will facilitate comprehensive interior refinement evaluations, encompassing Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) assessments, interior control design, and testing of Driver Assistance Technology (DAT) and autonomous features.
Notably, the simulator’s capabilities extend to precise virtual modeling of specific tires for comprehensive testing scenarios. In Formula One, where precision and performance are paramount, simulators play a pivotal role in optimizing race car performance.
McLaren aims to leverage this expertise to elevate the accuracy and effectiveness of its road car development, ensuring a seamless transition from virtual testing to real-world performance.
The collaboration with Dynisma marks a significant milestone for McLaren Automotive, aligning with its commitment to technological innovation and advancement.
However, amidst these developments, McLaren Group faces strategic shifts, with reports suggesting a potential change in ownership following a recent recapitalization initiative.
