Instead of the usual race format, the upcoming event at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife is turning into a test day amidst accusations of unfair practices between rival endurance series.
The season opener, traditionally hosted by the ADAC Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie organized by VLN, is now scheduled for April 6-7th. Meanwhile, the newly-formed NES, organized by AvD with involvement from the Nurburgring’s Russian owner NR Holding, plans its debut race on May 4th.
However, NES faces resistance from teams, drivers, and stakeholders who view it as a hostile takeover attempt against the NLS. NES alleges that both ADAC and NLS exert pressure on those willing to work for NES.
NES has adjusted its inaugural race to feature 90-minute races on the Grand Prix circuit due to a shortage of marshals required for the Nordschleife. It cites increasing hostility and threats from opposing factions.
In response, VLN Chairman Mike Jager dismissed NES’s claims and emphasized the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest. Despite challenges, NLS garners support from drivers, teams, and regional ADAC chapters.
Experts speculate NES may reconsider its approach amidst the escalating situation. The outcome hinges on further developments and potential resolutions.
