A fresh hybrid iteration of the Porsche 911 has completed a lap around the 12.94-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife in an impressive time of 7:16.934 surpassing its comparable predecessor by 8.7 seconds. Porsche has refrained from specifying the exact 992.1 model surpassed by the hybrid 992.2, sparking debates among enthusiasts. Speculation predominantly centers around the Carrera S and GTS variants.

Back in 2019, Porsche confirmed that a 2020 911 Carrera S clocked a time of seven minutes and 25 seconds at Nürburgring Nordschleife which is about 8.1 seconds slower than the upcoming hybrid model.  However, this comparison comes with a caveat. Around the same time, track operators implemented new regulations for lap times, altering the length of the track from 12.8 to 12.94 miles.

As a result, lap times before and after the rule changes aren’t directly comparable. The timing ambiguity extends to the 992.1 Carrera S, leaving uncertainty about its comparison to the new hybrid.

Porsche Club of America suggests that the 992.1 GTS, with a lap time of 7:25.632, is likely the closest competitor to the hybrid’s lap time. Porsche further disclosed that the hybrid model, driven by Jörg Bergmeister around the track, used standard road tires and featured an aero kit and fixed rear wing, available as existing options.

The identity of the gas-electric 911 variant will soon be revealed, as Porsche plans to introduce the new 992.2 generation next week on Tuesday, May 28. This reveal promises to provide more insight into the latest 911, including details about its hybrid powertrain, recently completed by the automaker.

The pricing details for the new hybrid Porsche 911 have not been officially disclosed yet. The full reveal, including specifications and likely pricing information, is expected at the end of May when the 992.2 generation debuts.

Currently, the 2024 Porsche 911 models range from approximately $116,050 for the base Carrera to $244,850 for the high-end Turbo S. More precise details regarding the hybrid model’s cost should become available following the official announcement.
