Enugu State Police Command, through its operatives at the Uwani Police Division, has apprehended a car-stealing syndicate operating primarily within the Kenyetta Market area in Uwani, Enugu. The arrest came as a result of intensified surveillance prompted by reports of car theft in the vicinity.
The leader of the syndicate, identified as Anioko Chukwujekwu, was apprehended on March 3, 2024, in the midst of an attempted car theft at the market.
Subsequent interrogation of the suspect led to the arrest of three additional individuals suspected to be his accomplices, located in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. These individuals are believed to be involved in various capacities, including conspiracy, receiving, and selling the stolen vehicles.
During the operation, law enforcement recovered numerous car keys and four distinct models of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, comprising two 190 E, one blue-colored C-Class, and one black-colored 230 E (V-Boot).
The suspects have been identified as Ugochukwu Okoh, aged 41, and Nkemdi Idah, aged 65, both apprehended on March 7, 2024, along with Nwoke Sunday, aged 57, arrested on March 9, 2024. The Enugu State Police Command has stated that once investigations are concluded, the suspects will be arraigned in court to face prosecution.
In light of these developments, CP Kanayo emphasizes the commitment of the Police Command to rid Enugu State of persistent criminal elements. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and compliant with the law to ensure the safety and security of the state.
