As holiday travel returns to the forefront and the pandemic recedes, Australia gears up for an influx of electric vehicles hitting the road this Easter. With a surge in electric car sales post-COVID, reaching a record high of over 87,000 battery-powered vehicles sold in 2024, charging infrastructure providers are bracing for the increased demand during the upcoming long weekend.

Chargefox, Australia’s leading electric vehicle charging network, has significantly expanded its charging network, adding 331 new locations compared to Easter 2023. Among these additions are 129 DC fast chargers equipped with 394 plugs, aiming to accommodate the growing number of electric car drivers traversing the country.

Despite the expansion, Chargefox advises EV owners to plan their journeys meticulously, recommending pre-trip charging at home and identifying alternative charging stations along the route to mitigate potential wait times. Rob Asselman, Head of Marketing at Chargefox, emphasizes the importance of preparation: “Easter is a busy time on Australian roads, leading to increased demand for charging.

To ensure a seamless journey, EV drivers should ensure they are fully charged before departure, check charging apps for operational status, and have backup charging options in mind.” Similarly, Evie Networks has bolstered its charging infrastructure, adding over 60 new locations and 250 plugs across its national network, totaling 214 sites nationwide.

Anticipating a surge in motorists visiting their charging stations during the Easter weekend, Evie Networks urges drivers to utilize their app’s “busy times” feature to assess station occupancy and choose optimal charging times. A spokesperson for Evie Networks underscores their commitment to providing accessible and reliable charging solutions:

“With over 97 percent of our stations operational, we aim to offer EV drivers hassle-free access to dependable charging spots across Australia.” As electric vehicles become increasingly popular, proactive planning and awareness of charging options are essential for a smooth and enjoyable Easter road trip experience.
