During the 250-lap race, an intense moment unfolded on lap 173 between drivers Dawson Cram and Joey Gase. As they approached Turn 1, Cram maneuvered to the inside of Gase, causing a spin-out that sent Gase’s No. 35 Chevrolet careening into the wall with force, nearly tearing off the rear bumper cover.
With the caution flag raised, Gase exited his car and made his way to the rear, where he forcibly removed the damaged bumper. Waiting for Cram to pass through Turn 1 once more, Gase then flung the bumper cover onto Cram’s car using his hands. The cover landed on the hood before flying over the vehicle and ultimately landing on the track.
Despite the dramatic retaliation, NASCAR opted not to penalize Gase immediately, although his car suffered irreparable damage, effectively ending his race. Furthermore, officials did not summon Gase to discuss the incident post-race, although a NASCAR spokesperson confirmed their intention to address the matter with him.
Reflecting on the incident, Gase speculated on Cram’s actions, suggesting a lapse in judgment or perhaps a mechanical issue. He emphasized his own team’s commitment to fair racing and hinted at past support given to Cram in his racing career.
Cram, however, chose not to comment following the race, leaving the altercation without further explanation.
