In a significant decision, voters in Enid, Oklahoma, situated in the northwest part of the state, opted to recall a city council member associated with White nationalism, according to the latest data from the Oklahoma Election Board.
Following the tabulation of votes from all four precincts in Ward 1, it became evident that the community had chosen Cheryl Patterson over the incumbent, Judd Blevins. Patterson, a grandmother and esteemed youth leader within her church, will assume the position.
Blevins, a former Iraq War veteran, secured his seat the prior year amid controversy regarding his ties to White nationalist groups.
He openly acknowledged his participation in the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, during a recent community forum. Blevins had affiliations with Identity Evropa, a now-defunct organization known for its White supremacist views.
In the forum, when questioned about his involvement in the rally and connections to Identity Evropa, Blevins justified his actions by citing concerns over immigration, border security, and what he perceived as pervasive anti-White sentiment in the media and entertainment industries—issues he believed were central to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential victory.
Connie Vickers and Nancy Presnall, longtime Enid residents and friends, spearheaded the effort to recall Blevins. Both women, aligning with the Democratic Party, launched this initiative in a predominantly Republican county, where GOP registered voters outnumber Democrats nearly four to one. Their successful campaign underscores a community united in challenging and rejecting ideologies that do not align with their values.
