Nissan has reaffirmed its dedication to Formula E, announcing its participation in the electric racing series through 2030. Having entered the competition in Season 5, which spanned 2018 and 2019, Nissan’s latest commitment marks its longest involvement in an FIA-sanctioned racing series to date. The automaker’s pledge ensures its presence in the series until the conclusion of Season 16, scheduled for 2029 and 2030.

Notably, Nissan is the first team to confirm its participation with the next-generation Gen4 race car, set to debut in Season 13, slated for 2026 and 2027. Collaborating in the car’s development, Nissan joins Porsche in shaping the future of Formula E. Porsche’s involvement beyond Season 12 remains uncertain

However, Nissan’s proactive stance underscores its commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology. The Gen4 Race Car will maintain a standardized platform across all teams, with opportunities for individual tuning, particularly in the powertrain domain. Promising advancements in power and charging capabilities compared to its predecessor.

The Gen4 car aims to deliver enhanced performance and safety standards. With targeted power outputs of 804 hp and regeneration capacities reaching up to 938 hp, the new race car sets ambitious benchmarks for Formula E competitors. For Nissan, Formula E serves as a vital testing ground for electric vehicle technology, offering a rigorous environment to refine and validate innovations.

Ponz Pandikuthira, Nissan North America’s senior vice president and chief planning officer, revealed that the insights gained from Formula E participation inform the development of the next-generation GT-R’s powertrain, though Nissan’s powertrain direction for the iconic model remains undecided.

In parallel with Nissan’s commitment, the Formula E Arena welcomes the revival of Lola Cars, a legendary race car constructor, in collaboration with Yamaha. Set to debut in Season 11, commencing later this year and extending into 2025, Lola’s entry adds an exciting dimension to Formula E’s ever-evolving roster of competitors.
