Hot Wheels makes cars that all kids can enjoy. But now, they have a new car made with the Autistic Self Advocacy Network to include kids with autism.
The new car is called the Flippin Fast. It can roll both upside down and right side up. It has big wheels in the middle that make the car balanced. This means it doesn’t have a specific top or bottom like regular cars. This allows kids to play with it in different ways.
But there’s more to it. The part in the middle of the car where the driver sits can spin around separately. This means kids can also use it as a fidget spinner if they want. This extra feature can be calming for some children.
Zoe Gross, from the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, says it’s important for kids to play the way they want. She says this car allows kids to play however they like. They can pretend with it or spin the wheels. There’s no wrong way to play with it.
Last year, Hot Wheels made the Braille Twin Mill car. It was the first Hot Wheels car to have Braille dots on it. They also put Braille on the packaging.
Mattel, the company behind Hot Wheels, is working with the Autistic Self Advocacy Network to make more toys for kids with autism. They created a character named Bruno, who has autism, for the Thomas & Friends toys.
The Flippin Fast car is released in April, which is Autism Awareness Month. It’s available in stores for $1.25.
