Senegal’s President, Bassirou Faye, has disclosed his assets ahead of the election, revealing ownership of a house, two second-hand vehicles, and other possessions. In a release dated March 22nd, Faye stated that he possessed a 2012 Ford Focus and a Ford Explorer SUV.
These vehicles were acquired second-hand in 2019 and 2022, respectively, as outlined in the disclosure. Despite being imprisoned shortly before the March 24th election, Faye, aged 44, secured victory with 54.3 percent of the vote.
On April 2nd, Bassirou Diomaye Faye was inaugurated as Senegal’s fifth president in a ceremony attended by numerous heads of state, including Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu. At 44, Faye became Africa’s youngest democratically elected president. Reflecting on his election, he expressed a commitment to govern with humility and transparency.
Before the election, Faye, a former tax officer, emphasized transparency by releasing a declaration of his assets and liabilities dating back to October 2007. In his disclosure, titled “Heritage Declaration of the Candidate Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye,” he listed ownership of a house, a plot of land, and approximately $6,600 across his bank accounts.
Apart from his financial assets, Faye reiterated his ownership of the two vehicles, the Ford Focus and the Ford Explorer Platinum SUV, acquired second-hand in 2019 and 2022 respectively, as per the publication release on March 22nd.
