Despite the conclusion of the BT62 era, Brabham’s legacy is far from over. David Brabham, the driving force behind Australia’s illustrious supercar, assures enthusiasts that the Brabham saga continues beyond the BT62’s curtain call.
Currently engaged in discussions for potential ventures post-parting ways with Fusion Capital, the company responsible for BT62’s development and production, Brabham remains optimistic about the brand’s future prospects. “The name is not dead in terms of the future,” he affirms. “Yeah, there will be another chapter.”
The separation from Fusion Capital earlier this year prompted reflections on the demise of the BT62 project, with Brabham acknowledging the project’s mismatch with its former partner’s vision. “I don’t think it was the right project for them,” Brabham reflects. “The partnership did not really work, we lost faith in the project.”
The BT62 marked Brabham’s return to the automotive scene, resurrecting a legacy rooted in a rich history dating back 75 years. Despite the setback, Brabham remains undeterred, emphasizing the significance of the BT62’s role in revitalizing the brand. “This chapter was not significant, compared to the past,” Brabham reflects, “but it re-launched the brand and got it out there.”
While the BT62 may have reached its final lap, Brabham assures enthusiasts that new ventures are already in the pipeline. “Since we announced our the ending of the (BT62) relationship, and put it out there, we’ve been approached by a few people… that are interested in what’s next,” he reveals.
With interest spanning Europe, Australia, and America, Brabham remains tight-lipped about the specifics but hints at a motorsport-inspired future. “Motor racing is part of our (Brabham) DNA,” he asserts. “We have a plan, we are not talking to people who have shown an interest in the next chapter of Brabham.”
In the interim, Brabham is gearing up to reignite his racing career, including Formula One and participation in Britain’s 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, with a BT62. Reflecting on his recent visit to Australia for the Adelaide Festival of Speed and the Australian Grand Prix, Brabham shares, “It feels like therapy.”
