Jimmie Johnson on the Next Gen: “You can’t slip and slide this car”

Johnson, a seasoned NASCAR driver, finds himself grappling with the demands of the sport’s new Next Gen car, a departure from previous generations. Accustomed to driving off the right rear, Johnson has encountered challenges adapting his driving style to suit the Next Gen vehicle.

With its distinct aero platform and tire characteristics, the car requires a different approach, emphasizing driving off the right front rather than the right rear. Despite his experience, Johnson has struggled with crashes in every race he’s attempted with the Next Gen car, including a recent incident at Texas Motor Speedway during practice.

As the co-owner of LMC (Legacy Motor Club), Johnson is not only a driver but also invested in the team’s success. Transitioning from Chevrolet to Toyota for the first time in his Cup Series career, Johnson seeks to leverage the partnership with Toyota to bolster LMC’s performance.
