Operatives of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) recently apprehended a dispatch rider, Matthew Odah, for the theft of three iPhones valued at N1.7 million. The 27-year-old suspect had been on the run for eight months before his arrest at Apha Beach, Lagos. Alongside Odah, the authorities also detained the two individuals who purchased the stolen phones. One of the iPhones was successfully recovered during the operation.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Command, disclosed that Odah, also known as Mr. Lemon, confessed to selling the three iPhones for a mere N300,000 in Obalende. The incident occurred on August 23, 2023, when Odah, in his capacity as a dispatch rider, was tasked with delivering one iPhone 14 ProMax (128 GB) and two iPhone 11s (128 and 68 GB) to a customer in Lekki, Lagos.
Upon receiving the consignment, Odah absconded and turned off his phone to evade detection. However, a persistent and discreet investigation by the authorities led to his eventual arrest at Lemon Bus Stop, Alpha Beach, Lagos. The recovery of one of the iPhones and the apprehension of Odah’s accomplices were significant breakthroughs in the case.
The swift action taken by the RRS highlights their commitment to combating crime and ensuring accountability within the community. The arrest of Odah and his associates serves as a deterrent to others who may contemplate engaging in similar criminal activities. The suspects are expected to face legal proceedings once investigations are concluded.
The case underscores the importance of vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public in curbing theft and related offenses. Through collaborative efforts and effective policing strategies, authorities can uphold the rule of law and maintain public safety, ultimately fostering a more secure environment for all residents.
