California is getting ready for the electric vehicle (EV) revolution. Governor Gavin Newsom announced the state has surpassed a major milestone: 100,000 public and shared private EV chargers are now operational. That’s on top of over half a million chargers already installed in homes.
This news comes with a big boost for the future of clean transportation. California approved a $1.9 billion investment plan to install even more chargers, with a focus on reaching 250,000 public chargers in the next few years. This plan also includes making sure at least half of the new chargers benefit communities that have been hit the hardest by air pollution.
California’s commitment to clean transportation goes even further. The state is investing heavily in zero-emission vehicles, with one-quarter of new car sales in 2023 being electric vehicles – that’s a whopping 1.5 million electric cars. They’ve also surpassed their goal of installing 10,000 fast EV chargers, making it easier than ever to recharge on the go.
Governor Newsom isn’t stopping there. He signed a bill to secure funding for EV infrastructure through 2035, showing California’s long-term dedication to a clean transportation future. California is setting the pace for the nation – buckle up for a greener future!
