A massive flood in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, inundated thousands of cars following a year and a half’s worth of rainfall within a short period. Among the submerged vehicles were high-end luxury cars like Rolls-Royce Cullinans, Range Rovers, and Rolls-Royce Continental GTs, adding to the spectacle of the event. The flooding was attributed by many to cloud seeding operations conducted in the region, a practice employed by the United Arab Emirates to enhance rainfall.
On Tuesday, April 16th, extensive flooding swept across many parts of the United Arab Emirates, marking the most significant rainfall event in the country’s recorded history spanning 75 years.
The deluge commenced late on Monday and swiftly accumulated rainfall equivalent to more than a year and a half’s precipitation, leaving numerous individuals stranded in various locations, including airports, residences, and shopping centers. Some regions experienced over 250 mm (approximately 10 inches) of rainfall within a 24-hour timeframe, as reported by the state’s media office.
The National Center of Meteorology disclosed that the Al Ain area, particularly “Khatm al-Shakla,” recorded 254.8 mm of rainfall within less than a day, underscoring the severity of the downpour. Social media platforms were inundated with images depicting submerged vehicles along Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai and extensive traffic congestion on multiple highways, painting a vivid picture of the chaos caused by the flooding.
Photos circulated online showcased luxury cars, including Rolls-Royce Cullinans, Range Rovers, Rolls-Royce Continental GTs, and models from Aston Martin, BMW, and Nissan, engulfed or floating in floodwaters.
The spectacle of these high-value vehicles succumbing to the floodwaters added to the astonishment of the event. The blame for the record-breaking downpour and ensuing floods was largely directed towards the recent cloud seeding operations undertaken by the UAE, a practice aimed at manipulating weather patterns to increase precipitation levels.
