The US might be putting a tax back on solar panels from China and other countries. This news comes from Reuters, a news outlet, and according to their sources familiar with the White House plans.

Here’s why this might be happening: a South Korean company called Hanwha Qcells is investing a lot of money (over $2.5 billion) to build solar panels in the US. They asked the US government to remove a rule that would let them avoid paying taxes on solar panels they import from China.

Other US companies that make solar panels also support this idea. They want the tax back on imported solar panels so they can compete better with cheaper panels from China.

The US government hasn’t said for sure if they will bring back the tax, but it could potentially help factories that make solar panels in the US.

However, there’s a catch: some other companies that install solar panels actually wanted the tax to go away. They liked being able to buy cheaper panels from China. They didn’t say anything about the tax directly, but they did ask the US government to let them import more parts for solar panels without paying a tax.
