Tesla is moving forward with a big plan to make charging stations for its electric trucks from Texas to California. Even though the U.S. government didn’t give them money for it, Tesla is still planning to build it. But the plan might change.
They wanted nearly $100 million from a government program to help build nine charging stations. These stations would help charge their electric trucks.
The plan was called TESSERACT and it would help Tesla trucks drive long distances. But Tesla didn’t get the money from the government.
A person from Tesla said they might get money from states or other government programs in the future. They might still build the stations even without the government’s help.
The route would connect Tesla’s factories in the U.S. and one planned factory in Mexico. Each charging station would have chargers for Tesla trucks and other electric trucks.
Half of the government’s money went to building electric vehicle charging stations in cities and rural areas. The other half went to building hydrogen fueling stations for trucks in places like Texas.
Some people don’t think the government should spend money on hydrogen fueling stations. They think it’s a waste.
Building the charging stations might be hard because Tesla recently changed its plans. They’re now focused on making self-driving cars instead of cheap electric cars. The electric truck program is also behind schedule.
Even though Tesla is facing challenges, some companies are still interested in buying their trucks. Tesla is also using some of their trucks to move things between their factories.
