Attorney General Ashley Moody from Florida said that Florida is joining a lawsuit with 24 other states against a new rule from the Biden administration about emissions and electric cars.
Moody thinks that President Biden is pushing for these new rules too fast, especially when the country doesn’t have the right infrastructure yet, and many people are struggling with the high cost of living.
“Biden wants to make almost 70% more electric cars be sold in the next 10 years,” Moody said. “But we think these rules are not good for Americans, so we’re taking legal action to stop them.”
The new rule sets limits on how much pollution cars and trucks can make. Florida says the government is trying to use its power to make car companies produce more electric cars.
Moody’s office said that last year, only about 8.4% of cars sold in America were electric.
They also mentioned a survey that showed more Americans aren’t interested in buying electric cars. Between 2023 and 2024, the number of people not interested went up from 41% to 48%.
Florida also talked about Ford, a big car company. They said Ford lost about $4.7 billion last year because of electric cars, and they think Ford will keep losing money in the future because of these rules.
Besides Florida, 24 other states are also part of this lawsuit against the government.
