The Lagos State Government (LASG) has reported significant success in traffic enforcement through the use of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and Traffic Management Solution (TMS) devices. Over a 15-month period, the ANPR cameras captured a staggering 850,000 traffic violations across various categories, showcasing the effectiveness of technological interventions in maintaining road safety.
To bolster traffic monitoring efforts, 53 ANPR cameras have been strategically installed at different locations throughout the state. This widespread deployment enables daily monitoring and routine checks for prescribed particulars violations, ensuring comprehensive coverage of traffic enforcement activities.
In addition to ANPR cameras, the introduction of TMS devices has further enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in traffic enforcement. Within just three months, these devices successfully identified and documented 26,816 real-time traffic infringements, underscoring their role in streamlining enforcement processes.
LASG emphasizes that the combined use of ANPR cameras and TMS devices extends beyond capturing violations related to prescribed particulars. Traffic officers also utilize handheld devices to enforce regulations concerning rickety vehicles, overloaded vehicles, blacklisted vehicles, and unauthorized or unregistered vehicles, demonstrating a holistic approach to ensuring road safety and compliance with traffic laws.
