Military airdrops have long been used to deliver essential supplies and equipment to troops in remote locations. Recently, Fort Liberty in North Carolina witnessed a series of airdrops featuring the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) A2, manufactured by Oshkosh.
The Cargo 6×6 variant of the FMTV A2 underwent low-velocity airdrop (LVAD) testing, demonstrating its ability to withstand the rigors of aerial deployment. With successful drop tests, the Cargo 6×6 is poised to replace aging trucks in airborne operations.
Designed for versatility and durability, the FMTV A2 series offers various configurations suitable for airdrop deployment. With payload capacities of up to 10,000 pounds (4,436 kg), these vehicles provide essential support to ground forces in remote and hostile environments.
In addition to the Cargo 6×6, the FMTV A2 family includes the Cargo 4×4 and Dump Truck 6×6 variants, expanding the range of capabilities for military logistics operations. With ongoing testing and evaluation, these vehicles are set to enhance the Army’s airborne capabilities in the coming years.
The Army’s procurement of over 500 FMTV A2 trucks underscores the importance of modernizing airborne logistics. As fielding progresses, these vehicles will play a critical role in supporting military operations worldwide.
