The famous song says, “If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.” That’s especially true in New York City, where strange things seem to happen all the time. Recently, a person on an airplane filmed something strange near LaGuardia Airport. It looked like a UFO, or an Unidentified Flying Object. But that’s just one more odd thing in a city where anything can happen.
Just in the past year, New Yorkers saw smoke from wildfires in Canada, soldiers in the subway, and even felt a small earthquake. Sometimes, all we want is to enjoy a quiet moment with a slice of pizza and tell tourists, “I’m walking here!” Is that too much to ask for?
Michelle Reyes saw something weird while looking out of the airplane window. She saw a flying object that looked like a cylinder, moving very fast. She recorded it on video. To check if the video was real, a TV host named Ben Hansen, who investigates UFOs, was asked to look at it. He said it seemed real, but sometimes things can look faster or slower than they are. Maybe the plane was moving fast, and the object was moving slowly, like a drone.
We don’t have proof that it was an alien spaceship, but who knows? The Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, hasn’t said anything about it. Reyes tried to tell them what she saw, just in case it was a safety problem. But they didn’t respond to her email. Maybe they’re busy dealing with other things, like giving refunds to passengers.
If the UFO was actually a drone, it could be dangerous. In 2018, someone used a drone to cause trouble at Gatwick Airport in London. More than 750 flights had to be canceled or delayed. Usually, we don’t care much about what happens around New York. But if it affects our travel plans, then we have to pay attention.
