In the Bavarian countryside, there’s something special that happens twice a year: the Techno Train, run by the Nuremberg nightclub Haus 33. It’s a train that turns into a nightclub, traveling nonstop for 124 miles from Nuremberg to Würzburg and back. Yes, it doesn’t stop. The journey lasts about seven hours, but you can take breaks. A recent story in the Guardian talked about why people love the train:

There must be at least one seat for each person, and I find a seat in the chill-out area. It’s one of the few cars without loud music and where smoking isn’t allowed. I talk to Vincent, a friendly 22-year-old from Nuremberg’s techno scene. I ask him for advice as a first-timer on the Techno Train. “Don’t stay in one place – explore the train,” Vincent says. His friend Benedict, with a deep voice and a light beard, adds, “Use the bathrooms early. They get … gross.”

Besides the crowded bathrooms, the trip seems well organized. The Techno Train has 12 cars, but only three have dance floors with lights, fog machines, speakers, and DJs. The Guardian also mentions “awareness staff” in red vests who watch for bad behavior and people doing drugs. “If we see two people go in a bathroom and stay for half an hour, we know something’s wrong,” one of them says.

Someone posted a video walkthrough of the whole train on YouTube in 2023. Don’t worry, they didn’t show the bathrooms. It’s a visually exciting experience. Make sure to read the full story in the Guardian, which includes an invitation to the afterparty once the seven-hour journey is over.
