The 6 Hours of Spa, a significant event in the FIA WEC Calendar, witnessed a commendable performance from Ferrari – AF Corse team’s 499Ps, securing third and fourth positions. The race encountered a red flag with 1 hour and 47 minutes remaining, with Ferrari leading, necessitating a restart that impacted the outcome.
Despite a challenging outing at Imola, the Ferraris showcased flawless performance at Spa, strategically maneuvering through the pack and excelling in tire management and pit stops.
The team’s early stints by Giovinazzi and Nielsen, followed by Calado and Molina, propelled them into top positions. During the restart, Ferrari number 51 faced an emergency stop and subsequent pit stop, which affected its position. Ultimately, despite their efforts, they couldn’t surpass the leading Porsches, finishing third and fourth. Notably, Ferrari number 83 secured third place in the independent FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams.
Reflecting on the race, drivers expressed mixed sentiments. Molina praised the team’s potential, while Calado acknowledged the exceptional performance but criticized the extended “sprint race.” Ye highlighted the complexities of the race but celebrated the podium finish in the independent teams’ class. Antonello Coletta, Global Head of Endurance e Corse Clienti, lauded the team’s strategy and results, emphasizing the significant positions achieved.
However, he expressed disappointment over the race’s extension beyond six hours. Ferdinando Cannizzo, Head of Endurance Race Cars, echoed similar sentiments, commending the team’s performance while expressing regret over the extended race duration. Despite the challenges, Ferrari demonstrated resilience and competence, leaving a mark on the Spa circuit.
