The Mercedes-Benz Metris van usually can’t go faster than 130 miles per hour because of an electronic speed limiter. This van weighs around 4,200 pounds and has a 208 horsepower engine.
So, going that fast can be loud inside because of the engine noise. It’s not something you’d accidentally do. But in Ohio, a postal worker got pulled over by the police. They were accused of racing a Mustang and going over 100 miles per hour on a public road.
The police deputy, who had a body camera, asked, “Is there a reason you’re going over 100?” The driver said they didn’t realize they were going that fast. The deputy said they noticed the Mustang speeding and then saw the postal worker’s van going about 105 miles per hour on State Route 20.
According to a local news report, the postal worker has had their driving license suspended three times before, but it was reinstated two years ago. They also have four driving convictions, including three for driving too fast and one for not wearing a seatbelt. Court records show they admitted to speeding in this case and paid the fine.
If the US Postal Service wants to prevent its employees from speeding, they could use a speed limiter kit for the Metris van. This kit allows you to set a lower speed limit, like 85 miles per hour, as a suggestion.
