The Rivian R1T and R1S are unique takes on the pickup truck and mid-size SUV, respectively. They not only offer powerful electric powertrains but also boast distinct aesthetics and innovative features, such as the R1T’s gear tunnel and the R1S’s split tailgate.

However, one thing they currently lack is the YouTube app or Google Cast functionality. Fortunately, both features will soon be available through their infotainment systems.

In the coming months, Rivian will enable users to watch YouTube through a downloadable application and cast videos using Google’s software. Almost everyone with an internet connection is familiar with YouTube, but casting is a slightly lesser-known experience. Essentially, it allows you to project videos from your mobile device to the 15.0-inch touchscreen on the dashboards of the R1T and R1S.

Whether you already own a Rivian model or are planning to purchase or lease one soon, Rivian says that both existing and new versions of the R1T and R1S will be able to access these new infotainment features via a free over-the-air update.

Once the update is available, users can access the YouTube app through the new Video Application menu. For Google Cast, you simply need to connect to Wi-Fi and then press the cast icon to see it appear on the screen.

Naturally, both video functions are only accessible when the vehicle is parked, meaning that shifting into the drive will pause any ongoing video, such as an episode of “Is It Cake?” season 3. Since we currently have a 2023 Rivian R1T in our long-term fleet, we’ll be on the lookout for when the YouTube app and Google Cast become available. This will allow us to test them out, likely during the downtime that comes with being plugged into a DC fast charger.
