The CEO of Automobili Estrema, Gianfranco Pizzuto, isn’t happy with what Mate Rimac, the founder of Rimac, said recently. Pizzuto thinks that making hypercars with electric engines is the best way to go. Rimac said something different, suggesting they might make a Nevera successor with hydrogen, diesel, or LPG power.
Pizzuto doesn’t agree with Rimac. He thinks Rimac’s partnership with Bugatti, a company known for its powerful engines, might be changing Rimac’s mind about electric hypercars. Bugatti said they’re making a new car with a big V16 engine, and it will also have electric power.
Rimac thinks hypercar buyers want more than just speed. They want a special experience, which they think a V16 engine can give better than an electric one.
But Pizzuto disagrees. He thinks there’s more to a hypercar than just the engine. They’re focusing on making their hypercar look amazing, like a piece of art on wheels. He believes their customers will love it even if it’s quiet. While some people might like fast electric cars, many others want the feeling only a gas engine can give.
Pizzuto remembers his old Fisker Karma car, which had both electric and gas power. When the battery died, and it had to use the gas engine, he didn’t like it. He said it felt like going from a sailboat to a motorboat, without harmony.
Their new car, the Fulminea, will be all electric with four motors and 2,040 horsepower. Even though it’s electric, it will be light for a hypercar. It will be fast, but some people would rather have a V16 engine even if it has half the power.
