Eddie Gossage, Renowned Racing Personality, Passes Away at 65
Gossage's death comes just before the 40th NASCAR All-Star Race weekend

Speedway Motorsports announced the sad news on Thursday evening, speaking on behalf of Eddie Gossage’s family.

The President and CEO of Speedway Motorsports, Marcus Smith, expressed his condolences, saying, “Today we have lost one of the world’s biggest race fans. From his legendary promotions to the lasting relationships he developed throughout the sports and entertainment industries, Eddie Gossage meant so much to the world of motorsports. Our hearts go out to his many friends and his beloved family.”

Eddie Gossage started working at Speedway Motorsports Inc. in 1989 and held various roles before becoming the president of Texas Motor Speedway. He retired in 2021 after many years of service.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

NASCAR and IndyCar also shared their condolences. NASCAR praised Gossage’s creativity in engaging fans, while IndyCar highlighted his dedication to enhancing the fan experience at Texas Motor Speedway.

Gossage’s death comes just before the 40th NASCAR All-Star Race weekend. One of the first major events he promoted was the 1992 NASCAR All-Star Race, where an unexpected incident occurred when the speedway’s lighting system was revealed.

Throughout his career, Gossage organized numerous events at Texas Motor Speedway, including races, car shows, and concerts featuring renowned artists like The Rolling Stones and ZZ Top. He was also known for his philanthropic efforts, especially with Speedway Children’s Charities.

TMS Executive Vice President and General Manager Mark Faber described Gossage as a trailblazer who laid a foundation for success at Texas Motor Speedway. Gossage’s legacy will be remembered for generations to come.
