Tesla’s Cybertruck came second in sales among electric pickup trucks in March, according to information from S&P Global Mobility.
The Cybertruck was behind Ford’s F-150 Lightning, as per data from Automotive News. In March, there were 1,158 new Cybertruck registrations, while the Lightning had 2,893. Rivian’s R1T had fewer registrations, with only 548.
Representatives from Tesla, Ford, and Rivian haven’t responded to requests for comments.
Tesla started delivering the Cybertruck to its first customers on November 30. Ford’s electric pickup became available in 2022, and Rivian’s was introduced in 2021.
Tesla hasn’t revealed how many Cybertrucks it has delivered yet. However, earlier this year, Tesla recalled around 3,878 Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13 and April 4, covering almost all the models made during that time.
Before the Cybertruck’s delivery event, it had approximately 2 million reservations, according to an online count. Many celebrities showed interest in the vehicle, making it a symbol of status.
After the Cybertruck’s revealing in 2023, some reservation holders told Business Insider that they were reconsidering their purchase due to the vehicle being over budget and having a lower range than initially promised.
Both Ford and Tesla are experiencing a slowdown in electric vehicle (EV) sales across the industry. Tesla reported its first year-over-year quarterly decline in April since 2020. In March, Ford announced plans to reduce its workforce at the factory producing the F-150 Lightning.
