The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is looking into the Volkswagen ID.4 because people are worried that its doors might open while driving. This is for ID.4 cars made from 2021 to 2023. The ID.7 and other Volkswagen electric cars are not being investigated.
The NHTSA got 12 complaints about the doors opening while driving, and nobody knows why it’s happening. Luckily, nobody got hurt or died because of this problem.
This isn’t the first time there have been problems with the ID.4’s doors. Before, there was an issue with water leaking into the car from the doors. It’s the same group of cars this time, so the NHTSA wants to see if the first fix worked.
The ID.4 has had a few recalls before, not all because of the doors. In early 2023, there was a recall because a charging cable could start a fire in some cars. They just had to replace the cable.
At the end of 2023, there was another recall because there was a fire risk with the sunshade. The material on the sunshade wasn’t good enough to stop fires. They fixed it by putting a special fabric on the shades.
