Ilott has been racing for Arrow McLaren in the IndyCar Series this year. He’s done several races, including the Indianapolis 500 where he’ll start 15th. Last year, he lost his full-time spot with Juncos Hollinger Racing. He then joined Team Jota for the World Endurance Championship (WEC), where he’s currently in second place overall. But when David Malukas got hurt, Ilott got a chance to race for Arrow McLaren.
Ilott came 13th in the first race of the season at St. Petersburg and also raced at The Thermal Club. But because of his WEC commitments, they also tested Theo Pourchaire. After the race at Barber, Arrow McLaren and Malukas parted ways, so Pourchaire will race for them for the rest of the season except for the Indy 500.
There’s uncertainty about next year’s drivers. Zak Brown from Arrow McLaren said Ilott did well, especially since they wanted to see him race on an oval. Pourchaire hasn’t raced on ovals before, so Ilott’s experience was helpful. Brown said, “Callum is definitely on our consideration list.”
When asked if it’s Pourchaire or Ilott for one seat, Brown said it’s not that simple. The team had some issues with drivers last year, so they’re taking their time to decide. They already signed Pato O’Ward for a few more years, but they’re not sure about Alexander Rossi. Brown said they’ll figure out the 2025 lineup after the Indy 500.
“Now, it’s like catch our breath, focus on Indy and turn our attention to what we’re gonna do with our driver lineup after this race,” Brown said. “Those conversations will come real quickly. We’ve got a short list as you can imagine.”
