The British racer, Legge, has been facing a tough time handling the No. 51 Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing Honda. She’s had some close calls and even brushed against the wall a bit. Despite the tricky handling, Legge managed to go even faster and clocked an average speed of 230.082mph to qualify 31st. Now, the focus is on the race and making the car easier to drive.

“We tried a lot of things on Monday,” said Legge, 43. “We have an idea of what to do, but we really need Friday to confirm it. We hope it doesn’t rain. We lost time last week, and it’s hard to know exactly what the car needs when you’re not driving it every week. I can tell what the car is doing, but fixing it is tough without enough time. I think we’ll be better with Friday’s practice.”

Luckily, it didn’t rain on Friday, and Legge got to practice 86 laps, ranking 31st on the speed charts.

Legge, who’s racing in her fourth Indy 500, mentioned that while she found some balance, it cost her speed and made it hard to keep up with others. Not having her teammate, Nolan Siegel, who didn’t qualify, has made it harder to find solutions.

“We found some balance, but lost speed,” Legge said. “I couldn’t keep up with other cars, even when I was in their slipstream. Not having Nolan there makes it harder because we started with the same setup. When you have more than one car, you can try different things faster. The engineers are working hard. We might try a big change on Friday. If not, we’ll just have to be patient and wait for the car to come to us.”
